I booked the Akaroa day tour from Christchurch during my stay in the South Island, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The journey to Akaroa was incredibly scenic — passing through Sumner, Lyttelton, and Gebbies Pass, with plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos of the rolling hills and coastline. Once we arrived in Akaroa village, I was blown away by its charm. The French influence is everywhere — from the architecture to the street names — and the harbour views are simply stunning. I had free time to explore the local shops, walk along the waterfront, and enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the cafes. I didn’t do the optional Akaroa Harbour Cruise, but several people in our group did and loved seeing Hector’s dolphins up close. Whether you're into wildlife, photography, or just looking for a peaceful escape, this tour has something for everyone. Our driver-guide was fantastic — knowledgeable, helpful, and really passionate about the region. The tour included return transport from Christchurch and bottled water, making it a very comfortable and well-organized experience. Our guide was friendly, informative, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. The tour was well-paced, comfortable, and stress-free. I especially appreciated the small touches, like the included bottled water and stops at local gems like Little River.
